Ford GT Heritage Edition : A version inspired by Daytona ‘s 24-hour race
The latest Heritage Edition to be added to the Ford GT family pays homage to the car that dominated the 1966 Daytona 24 Hour Continental, in which Ford claimed its first victory in a 24-hour endurance race. This was the theme of the 2019 movie “Ford v Ferrari” – or “Le Mans ’66,” as it is known in Europe. Drivers Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby led Ford dominance (1-2-3-5) at Daytona, marking the start of a magical season for the Ford GT40 MK II, which was followed by the emphatic 1-2-3 at Sebring and in Le Mans. The Heritage Edition is the first to be “dressed” in racing colors different from those of Ford racing proposals starring in Le Mans.
“Miles and Ruby led almost every lap of the 24-hour race and outscored their competitors by finishing 30 miles apart,” said Severson. “It was the first time that Ferrari’s dominance in sports car racing was threatened, which was a milestone in the Ford GT racing program.”
Inspired by the white, black and red colors of the racing Ford GT40 MK II that won the Daytona in 1966, the new Ford GT Heritage Edition is painted in Frozen White and features a bare carbon fiber hood that ensures an attractive aesthetic contrast. The asymmetrical touches in Race Red color are found on the front of the car, on the edge of the roof, on the driver’s door, but also under the rear spoiler, thus giving a special character, while the decorative graphics with the number # 98 are made of bare carbon fiber. are an element of the vehicle identity and indicative of its low weight.
